Leo Matsuyama

Leo was born in Torrance, California, where he was raised through middle school. He moved to Osaka, Japan for 3 years over high school, and there he lived in an on campus dormitory, studied rigorous academics, and began dancing. Once he graduated, Leo came back to LA to pursue a career in dance.

Professionally, you might've seen Leo dancing on an international commercial for Panasonic, a national commercial for Target, or on an episode of Nickelodeon's hit show The Thundermans. He has also danced for artists like Sabrina Carpenter, Joyce Wrice, and just wrapped up a two month long world tour with Amber Liu. You can also catch Leo’s assistant creative direction work on four major concerts for NCT 127 and NCT Dream.

Leo has now been teaching for close to a decade in many styles, but locking is his specialty. He has a passion for the history and rich culture of this beautiful performance/funk style, and has been dedicated to sharing it with many individuals and dance programs over the years.

“Something I emphasize a lot in my class is connecting to your inner joy, especially when it comes to locking. Freedom, self acceptance, loving your mistakes, and happiness is what the entire dance style was founded on, so I like to talk about and capture that with a community-minded approach in the room.” - Leo Matsuyama
